Anyone know of a bar that flies under the radar on Saturday nights in the LES? I usually avoid going out to bars on Saturday night because of the B&T invasion but I don't have a choice this time.

Looking for something fun and hip without being Euro/cheesy. Live DJ would be a plus. No frat boys/traders. Willing to get off the grid.

Cheers!

Piano's is painfully busy most nights. Micky's Blue Room on Avenue C is just a few blocks up from the main drag, and is quite laid back (dj some nights).

No silly hipsters, B&T, or fratguys. It's pretty plain-jane, maybe a dj, not sure, it's just a bar, no pretention.

i disagree with the posts on 151--though it is generally not over-packed, the music is usually waaaay to loud and abrasive (think dark, harsh metal) to have an enjoyable time for long. it's not too bad toward the end of a night when you're good and hammered, though.

i like th magician for a chilled-out vibe down there and though it can get crowded, i have had good luck with their jukebox and table availability. the magician is on rivington, east of ludlow, no sign on door.

the new Barrimundi space on Clinton has been pretty low key, not packed. they've always had a nice local following, and their regulars have moved with them to new location. good DJ's too, nice mix of stuff. (the space isn't as cool as the old place though)

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I definitely have some ideas now.

Since Kush is reopening this weekend would that be a good call too?

And on a side note, how long has BOB been open? That place seems like its been there forever. Save the Robots anyone?

Went to Kush last night...lovely space! I wouldn't call it a "sleeper" bar, though. The new Kush (located on Chrystie b/w Stanton and Rivington) is a lot bigger than the original. Still an international crowd and music to match and more tabletops for hookahs. Definitely a lounge to frequent...

Many good recs, but my choice is Lotus Club (which is the polar opposite of the club called Lotus on 14th st on the west side) on Clinton and Stanton. It is almost all local (its a coffee shop during the day) and has DJs on the weekend. It can get a bit crowded (and hot), so go before 11 or so.
