It has had good reviews at beeradvocate.com. There is also a attached bar called "Hop Duvel" opening next door which will be specializing in Belgian ales... This place has only been open for a month or so... I may go tonight instead of my regular Friday night hang out, d.b.a.'s.

I don't know what you guys are all talking about. We had a great time. Excellent beer selection and good food. Of course, they are brand new. I find it hard to judge a place until they have been open for at least six months. However, the attitude there was friendly and that is a great distinction from other establishments in the hood. And, the bathrooms, when compared to DBA, were immaculate.

I concur. Food is what it is. Decent ribs, great burgers, fresh salads. Nothing fancy, but satisfying nevertheless. Their 2 for 1 Tuesday night fajitas seem to be a good deal. Stellar tap and bottle selection show their dedication to quality beers. Service was a bit spotty, but not really bad for a busy new restaurant. I like the Hop Devil Grill, and welcome them to the neighborhood.

I was not impressed at all. Decent but not great beer list, food of the bad bar variety, wings fried calamari etc. It was quite loud and the staff was not at all knowledgeable about beer. They did have Westverlevtern on the menu at $19.00 an 11.3oz bottle! I had a Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus for I think $21.00 for a 750mL. I certainly would not give up DBA for this place; and as a matter of fact when the person I was waiting for at Hop Devil showed up, we finished my beer and headed straight for DBA.

this place is awful. beel list is actually pretty good, but unfortunately it doesn't compensate for the TGI Friday's-like decor, the idiotic staff, and the stale smell of gross fried food. the place is way too big for that neighborhood and i hope they go out of business soon.

i've been twice, once at the end of a long night out for a beer, then i went back with the intention of checking it out for real but i couldn't even bring myself to order a beer--i just left.

I haven't, but am encouraged to hear how they treat their keg lines and such. It seems like 99% of bars pour flat, off-tasting beer. It's run by David Copperfield folks, so I'm willing to give them a try.

Yes. I haven't had the food, but the beer's ok. For NYC, they've got a good selection. The big problem with this place (and with it's father bar/restaurant, David Copperfields) is that the bar staff isn't very good. Most of them know little to nothing about the beer that they are serving.

d.b.a.'s staff (and beer selection is better, as is the vibe.

My buddy and I had lunch at David Copperfield’s last week on a weekday. There were maybe 3 other patrons there at the time (i.e., it was empty). We weren’t put off by the fact that no one was there...I mean, it was a weekday on the UES, but I could not believe how poor the service was considering the place was nearly empty. I’m not exaggerating when I say it took close to 10 minutes from the time we sat down until they took our drink order, and no kidding, another 10 minutes to get a beer! I mean, we were 3 feet from the stinkin’ bar and we had to wait almost 20 minutes for a beer? When the drinks finally did arrive, my buddy’s Heineken still had the cap on (not a twist off) and the server warned him that the fridge was busted and the beer was warm!

Since I was the one who suggested we try this place, I was embarrassed and wanted to get up and walk out just to make a point (we would have paid for our drinks, of course). But he wanted to stay. By time I finished my first beer, there were no other tables left and it still took WAY too long to get another. The bartender was sitting at the bar reading and our server was too busy chatting with two high-school-age looking girls that had come to visit. He seemed as if he could care less about his job.

In the end, the food was just okay, but I will NEVER go back. This city has way too many choices for me to spend my hard earned money at a joint that could care less about their customers.

Had a similar experience. We went with a group of about 20 for dinner and drinks on a Friday night. Yes it was busy, but the service was terribly slow, and not because she was run of fher feet - she was often lounging by the bar. Food was OK, nothing fabulous, but OK. After the big group dispersed (and left a super tip) a few of us stayed behind. It took a stupid amount of time to get drinks whenever we wanted to order more and by this time the place was near empty. The server was just chatting at the bar or was in the back most of the time.
