A while back, I asked if anyone knew where I could find the Westvleteren trappist beer. I also asked on the DC board, as I currently work around that area.

I wound up taking my first shot online, from a place located in Blacksburg, VA that had Westvleteren on their online shopping page (I added some St. Bernardus, Rochefort, Duvel, De Dolle, Brasserie des Rocs, and Chimay, as well). Turned out they didn't have the Westie in stock.

Anyway, before this gets too long, I wound up finding a nice stock of Westvleteren beer (the 12, 8, and blonde styles) at a Whole Foods market in Vienna, VA. They (Jim the Beer Man) also had copious amounts of every other trappist beer currently being brewed. During the browsing process, I became notably more excited about the Whole Foods at Houston and Bowery, a mere two blocks from my apartment.

Has anyone heard of a timeframe for opening?

Are the high-end beer selections at the various NY Whole Foods markets as extensive as I've found down in VA?

Good find! The Columbus Circle WF has no beer as they have the wine store. I did not see anything at all special or interesting in either the Chelsea or Union Square locations (only been to the latter once).

Union Sq was kind of a letdown; I wouldn't get too excited. I think it takes the prospect of extraordinarily rich people for Whole Foods really to go all out with a store.

If you live 2 blocks away from there, you have to go to the beer store on Chrystie btwn Delancy and Rivington--cheap, with an incredible selection of beer. Truly an epiphany for me when I found it 2 weeks ago.
