Just when I was about to make reservations at Lure Fishbar to take my grown kids, the kind of place that's amusing enough visually and gustatorially to distract us all when family conversations brake into none-of-your-business-whom-I'm dating silences, Frank Brunu gives it the back of his hand. Any suggestions for alternate dinner sites that are themed but cool?

It doesn't sound like you need a "theme" restaurant, but more of a bustling place with good food and enough eye candy to keep you all entertained through those parent-child silences.

Check out Les Halles (Park & 29th), Dos Caminos (Park & 26th), Mercadito (Ave B & 10th), or anything else of that ilk. All have excellent food and great service, but the atmosphere will be boisterous enough to fill your needs.

I'd also recommend Cabana (good solid Latin food) or a place like Becco (where I take my in-laws).

Go to any BR Guest restaurant: Vento, Blue Water Grill, Dos Caminos etc. they all fit your bill. Just because Bruni didn't like Lure, it doesn't mean that you won't enjoy it.

I don't trust a single word Frank Bruni writes. I've never been to lure, but at least base your decision on an opinion (or several) better than his.
