Anyone have ideas on where I can buy some nice dry French hard cider in SF or the East Bay? American would be ok too if it's not too sweet (ie no ACE). Just wish I had time to drive up to the Apple Farm and get a bottle or two of theirs!

The Chronicle had an article in its Sunday magazine about Murdo Laird's cider. Murdo Laird is Cindy Pawlcyn's husband and this cider is available at Mustard's in the Napa Valley as well as some stores up there as well as by e-mail. Here's a link to the article.

Interesting article. I just wonder how he achieves 9% alcohol w/o chaptilization (which hopefully I spelled correctly).

A lovely French cider is E Dupont Cidre Bouche, described at link below. You can contact the importer through the web site to see if it's sold in your area.

K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City usually has four or more brands on hand. I assume that their SF store carries a selection also.

If you can't find French cider, call The Spanish Table in Berkeley and see if they've got any Sidra. It's the Spanish version of hard cider from Austurias in Northern Spain.
