Thanks everyone for the recommendations for places near W. 55. I had also culled some good spots form the past month’s worth of postings. Here are a few reports.

Molyvos- I walked by this place and it looked good, the name jogging my memory from a Chowhound post. I forgot the street the next day and stopped in a fancy hotel to ask the concierge the address. “Milos, very good, and the place across the street, very good too,” he said approvingly. “Like me to make a reservation.” I thought the reservation comment was a bad sign, since I wanted a cheaper place, but wound up making one. Stopped by Milos, it looked good but good and expensive, so I cancelled the res and eventually found Molyvos.

Nothing like a shot of a good ouzo to start off lunch on a rainy day. The waiter picked a good one for us. Ate Greek salad, the lamb sandwich roll, and the lentil soup. Loved the atmosphere, the food was fine.

Congee Village, 100 Allen at Delancy- Now this place I liked. Found it from a link on Chowhound to a Village Voice best 100 Asian restaurants survey. Was eating light, so had the congee (table mates tried it w/ fresh squid & ginger and with “healthy vegetables”). This place has pictures on its menu so it’s easy to order some fun, new, interesting dishes. Had a lightly fried bean curd with mushroom and the greens with garlic. They serve a decent oolong. Loved the congee (jook, or rice porridge).

Soba Nippon- Soba with veggies, sushi rolls, watercress with sesame. Skip the sushi rolls, nothing special.

Next on the agenda: Grand Sichuan, Jacques Torres, something in Koreatown, Katz/2nd Ave/or Carnegie.

Thanks everybody for the recommendations.
