Last week I posted some critical comments on the Union Square Cafe. I recently received the following e-mail from Christopher Russell the wine and service director there:

"Thanks for you honest feedback on Chowhound. You, and others who speak up,
make us a better restaurant.
I hope you'll feel free enough to speak up next time your in so that you
don't leave disappointed."

Just wanted to note that to their credit my comments in this forum were noted and adressed by management at an upper echelon restaurant.

The lesson learned but often forgotten because some of us can be intimidated in the restaurant setting is to speak up if not satisfied. They can't help if they don't know.

I am impressed! How many other restaurants in Manhattan welcome constructive criticism? For some reason I can not imagine anyone from some of the other popular restaurants taking the time to look for feedback on how to improve.Maybe this is one reason for their long time success.

That is awesome that he took the time to respond to your comments. That kind of genuine service seems unfortunately all too rare in many restaurants.
By the way, thank you for reminding me about this place. I went for the first time a few months ago, and loved it. Now I have the urge to go back again. Mmmm, fried calamari, pasta, polenta, love it, love it, love it :)

This attitude is what sets the Union Square Hospitality Group apart from virtually every other restauranteur. They really care about their guests.
