My husband and I will be staying in Fremont Saturday night, attending a HS reunion (but know nothing of the area - the HS was not in Fremont, tho the reunion, oddly, is)- in anticipation that we will choose to duck out and eat elsewhere, any recommendations for a nice dinner place Sat PM? Or a breakfast place for Sunday? Many thanks

Chaat Cafe and Alborz both have Fremont locations (I've been to neither in Fremont), and both have been written up extensively on chowhound if you want to do a search. Alborz is more of a place for a nice dinner than Chaat Cafe.

There's also:
--My Thai; a Thai restaurant at Fremont Blvd. near Decoto that serves food mild, medium, hot, and fire (if you order fire you get your picture taken for the "wall of fire")
--Chico's Tacos; small chain with good shredded beef tacos (a little downscale for what you're probably looking for)
--Banana Garden or was it Tree?
--El Patio for nicer Mexican food

I used to live in Fremont. Some of the outstanding ones have been posted previously - use CTRL-F to find it.

Pearl's Cafe, 4096 Bay Street, Fremont, CA. Most things are good there. California cuisine.

Also you are close to one of the large ethnic cuisine concentration - primarily Asian cuisine that are quite authentic and great tasting. I would concentrate on Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese places. There are lots of Indian too but I don't know much about it. There are tons of these ethnic places in distinct pocketed areas of the city and that's what make this place unique compared to other areas in US.

Tam is Vietnamese and Thai Restaurant inside a LION shopping complex - on Milpitas Blvd & Dixon Landing, in the city of Milpitas, not far from Fremont. It's the next city.

Make sure to eat at Tung Kee noodle house if you're in the Milpitas area.

For breakfast, go to Nation on Fremont Blvd (accross and near Fremont Hub shopping area). Inside the Hub, Tung Kee nooodle is also present.

You will be delighted when you see these places and know the diversity and the specialness of Fremont and surrounding area.

I can't believe Afghani hasn't been mentioned! I think that's the most exciting cuisine in Fremont, otherwise known as Little Kabul.

I went to Salang Pass last week with a friend for lunch and it was fabulous! Nice atmosphere, despite being on the main drag (Fremont Blvd.) and in a strip mall-like location. You can sit on the floor or in "normal" chairs, and there's good music and the service is nice.

We had kadu, the pumpkin appetizer that's so delicious. Sweet, possibly caramelized chunks of pumpkin with a garlic yogurt topping and a sprinkling of delicious herbs - cardamom and other things I couldn't pick out. Yum! And we shared qabuli polow, a dish of brown basmati rice with raisins, carrots, and lamb chunks. Also very good - a little sweet, if you're into that.

There are other Afghani places on Fremont Blvd. De Afghanan Kabob House is nearby and has gotten rave reviews on the site and elsewhere.

I wouldn't recommend the Alborz Persian restaurant in Fremont. I think the SF one was much much better... Can't describe it, but it just seemed busier at the SF location, so the food seemed fresher and more delicious.

Enjoy your stay!
