Around Manhattan Club-(W 56th) recommendations

In a few weeks we will be staying at the Manhattan Club on West 56th due to my new in-laws' generosity. We have been to the city many times, but haven't spent much time in this area. Any recommendations for brunch, lunch or snacks? We already have reservations for dinner in other neighborhoods, thanks to this wonderful board. We are certainly not tied to the area surrounding the hotel but was wondering what we might want to consider or avoid. Thanks so much!

    1. Trattoria del Arte on Seventh Ave across from Carnegie Hall is wonderful and just a block or two from The Manhattan Club.

In addition to a full menu and a nice brunch, they have an outstanding antipasto bar and thin, crisp pizzas.

Thanks all, for your recommendations! I can't wait!

          • I like lunch at Eatery on 9th ave around 53rd.

              1. Town, in the Chambers Hotel, on W. 56th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs., serves sensational New American cuisine. They serve breakfast and lunch (and dinner, of course, but you say you're already booked for that). In addition to their a la carte lunch menu, they offer a 3-course prix-fixe for $28 -- a real bargain for food of this quality. The unusual subterranean space is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

Oceana, on E. 54th St., b/t Madison & Park Av., serves wonderful fish and seafood. The prix-fixe lunch @$48 may be expensive, but it's worth it!

If you like Greek food, there's Molyvos, on 7th Av., b/t 55th & 56th Sts. I haven't eaten there in a very long time, so I can't say how the food is now. It gets mixed reviews from Hounds, and price-wise, it's on the higher end of Greek restaurants.

Uncle Nick's, on 9th Av., b/t 50th & 51st Sts., is our favorite Greek restaurant in the area. Very good food. Very moderate prices.

Our favorite French bistro in the area is Rene Pujol, on 51st St., b/t 8th & 9th Avs. They've been around for more than 40 years, and for good reasons: delicious bistro favorites, as well as many modern/creative dishes; very professional service; pleasant, comfortable surroundings. There's a lunch prix-fixe for $23.

For excellent burgers, go to "the burger joint" (it doesn't have a formal name) located at the rear of the lobby in Le Parker Meridien Hotel, on W. 56th St., b/t 6th & 7th Avs.

Enjoy your visit to NYC and Bon Appetit!

                  1. For Japanese noodle experiences, try Menkui-Tei on 56th between 5th & 6th (closer to 6th). It is a somewhat dingy ramen shop (common in Tokyo, uncommon in Manhattan) filled with Japanese expats. I really like their curry ramen with fried rice on the side. They even have Japanese manga to read while you slurp. There is also Menchanko-Tei on 55th between 5th and 6th. They have a wider selection of noodles and are somewhat more westerner-friendly but I like the pure ramen appeal of Menkui-Tei better.
