yes, they're close. katz's is on houston street, between 1st ave (aka allen st south of houston) and avenue a (essex south of houston). if you walk south on essex after your katz's trip, and you can still ingest anything, donut plant is about a 5 minute walk, on grand st.

Yes, they are quite close by each other on the Lower East Side.

Directions:

To get to Katz's by subway from the UWS, take the B/D to West 4th St, change to the F/V and get out at 2nd Ave; if you get out at the front of the train this leaves you at Houston (HOW-ston) and 1st Ave, a couple blocks from Katz's, which is at Houston and Ludlow.

Alternatively, take the 1/9 local down to Houston St and hop on a crosstown bus (running down Houston) and ask the driver to let you off near Ludlow.

Or take a cab. :-)

Anyway, now you are at Katz's. Once you eat your pastrami, matzoh ball soup, and pickles, you really may not feel like eating doughnuts, but if you do...

Walk south down Ludlow Street five blocks to Grand Street, and make a left and walk about three more blocks. Doughnut Plant is on Grand between Norfolk and Suffolk.

Katz's is at Houston and Ludlow. If you walk two blocks east on Houston, you hit Norfolk. Walk five blocks south on Norfolk to Grand (which also happens to be the end of Norfolk) and you'll be at the Donut Plant (379 Grand).

Both are w/i walking distance (@.5 mile according to www.mapblast.com)

Katz's Deli (http://www.katzdeli.com) is located at 205 E. Houston (corner of Ludlow) and The Doughnut Plant (http://www.doughnutplant.com/) is located south of that at 379 Grand Street (between Essex & Norfolk Streets)

Depart Katz's and walk SOUTH on Ludlow St and when you hit Grand St. Turn LEFT (East) until you get to the Doughnut Plant at 379 Grand St.

FYI, two stores before you get to the Doughnut Plant is Kossar's Bialy's (367 Grand) and imho a much better destination. That's 'cause I prefer the doughnuts at The Doughnut Pub on the north side of W.14th st btwn 6th & 7th Aves.

Have a great time!
