Hi,
I am researching some ideas for a food event focused on Indian cuisine. I wanted to see if there were some exciting new trends or aspects of Indian cuisine and restaurants that would be interesting to do for a panel discussion or cooking demo event. I welcome any suggestions for topics or interesting articles to read.

Thanks so much!

i don't think this so much counts as a trend, but most indian restaurants in this country tend to do sort of generic indian food. it might be interesting to explore the different regions of india and the different things they make.

here's another idea: indian fusion...people are experimenting with combining traditional indian ingredients with european cooking styles and ingredients. tabla comes to mind.

Indian Chinese food is starting to make a scene, I think. Don't know of any places in Manhattan, but my husband and I recently enjoyed a delicious Indian Chinese meal at Tangra Masala in Elmhurst, Queens.

I haven't eaten there yet, but there is a place in town called Bukhara which is the name of one of the trendiest places in Delhi (both clinton and gates have eaten there). the food is very indian, but not the type of food that you would get in your grandma's house (a lot of indian resteraunts try to have food as "home made" like as possible). this may be an extension of that trend. it is north west indian.

using spice in a more authentic indian style is one thing i hope becomes a bigger trend. MIRCHI comes right to mind for me.

hows about british styled indian in the states? see BRICK LANE CURRY HOUSE in th east village.

DOSA HUT food cart in washington sq park is well loved and should clone itself another fifty times over imo. can i push for a trend???

there is the KATI ROLL place on macdougal. indian street food seems to be a growing trend.

and finally, not new but dont forget places that specialize in the set thali plate. those can be great.
