Nothing special and WAY too expensive for what it is. I have been there three times and liked it less and less each time - and I am a major fish person. I thought it was best when it first opened and has since gone a bit downhill.

I don't agree about it being too expensive for what it is, but I definitely agree that it was really wonderful when it first opened and it hasn't been as good the last few times I went.

I felt the prices were very reasonable personally...what did you think was overpriced? It's a very nice dining room, with a very good bar---I felt the prices were pretty in-line with what I'd expect to pay (in downtown manhattan anyway.........) :)

I concur. It's reasonably priced for what they offer. I like there total package. They donb't really attempt to go beyond serving simple food.

I agree that the Mermaid Inn went a bit downhill recently. But after a meal there last Sunday I have to say that they are hitting on all cylinders.

The waitress said that they plan to change the menu a bit every 6 weeks. Most of their standard items remain (e.g., spaghetti with seafood, char tar tar, and the raw bar). And the wine list is small, well selected and inexpensively priced.

Oh, and one more thing I remember after reading the review, my oysters were poorly opened and, as a result, had bits of shell throughout.
