Made a reservation on a Friday afternoon. Very accomodating over the phone and gave me a 7 pm reservation that evening. Arrived at 7 pm, our reservation was in book and place was pakced. After 30 minutes at a packed bar, and virtually no movement of tables, asked the maitre'd what happened. He said that the 6 pm reservation for our table "arrived late". No apology, no drink offer, no estimated table time.
We left and went to Osteria del Circo, and as usual, had wonderful friendly service and fine food and wine.
Life is too short to be treated like this in New York City when so many other establishments who know what customer service is like abound. -

re: eater
I went with clients...unfortunely...the place is a disaster, we had 8pm reservations, seated at 9:30, at least they didn't lose mine. Also, its loudest restautant i've ever been in. My ears were ringing when i left the place. The stupid low concaved tile ceiling magnifies sound...the steak was o.k about on the level of a ruth chris, crappy overpriced all california wine list....the place will be out of biz in 6 months

I wish they lost my reservation. The steak was incredibly tasteless and bland. There are many other steakhouses in the city I'd rather eat at.

re: Bob
we have discussed this restaurant a number of times before. what I cannot understand is, considering it is at the death location of all death locations, this attitude in service and food. you would think, if they did any research at all about the location, they would discover that no restaurant at this location has stayed for any length of time, they would go out of their way to offer splended food and service. from what various chowhounders have posted, this seems to be a one try restaurant. go once, and never go back!

re: walter
Well said. Although after reading all the negatives about this place, I dont't think I'll even make it there the first time. There are just too many great steak houses in New York...not to mention the original Lugers! They'll either get it together, or go out of business. It's that simple.
