I have not heard much about this place lately. Has anyone been recently. Is it worth all that money?

It never was worth its cost, but that doesn't mean that a diner couldn't go just for the experience at least once. :)

ADNY costs roughly twice as much as the other first-echelon French restaurants in town, and the cuisine certainly isn't twice as good. Indeed, I'd have to say that it's not as consistently excellent as some of the others. So it's not worth all that money, in that sense.

However, ADNY is impeccably run, in my experience, and the considerable extra cost buys you a pleasant, calm environment and reliably excellent and gracious service. ADNY is not prone to the bustle and management breakdowns that can plague its peers, especially on weekends, and one is more comfortably guaranteed a pleasant experience there. So it retains a niche, in my heart at least.

While I may agree that it's not worth the cost, ADNY was the best meal I've had in NYC in a few years. I thought the food and service were both impeccable . . . but charging $110 for a bottle of wine that retails for $25 is a bit off-putting.

What's worse the retaurant and liquor store paid anywhere from $3-12 for that same bottle, depending upon specials and distributor offers.

Went there once. Thought it was a terrific, special ocasion, dining experience. Didn't think it was so terrific/special that I'd go back very often when places like Bernadin and Daniel exist at much lower prices. If one can afford it (or even better has an expense account to take a very important client on), it's worth the trip.

I went to AD in Paris. It was the most expensive meal I have ever had - approx. $700US for two. We each had the tasing menu, one cocktail each before dinner, one bottle of wine - approx $175US, and coffee after dinner. Simply put, it just was not worth it. Very uninspired cooking, with the exception of the fish courses. Mr. Ducasse was there (he autographed our menus so it can't be blamed on a second-string kitchen that night. I've heard similar results on ADNY.
