In a nutshell, seems to be pretty close to having the Luger's meal down pat, though they had a major overcrowding problem last night (I got seated at 8:45 or 9 on a 7 PM reservation). I want to try it again when I can approach the steak more clearheaded (i.e. when I haven't been having beers at the bar for two hours before sitting down). For this one time, though, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, because they're doing a good job with the food, they were very apologetic, and they've only been open for something like two weeks (and the place seemed mostly empty during those first weeks). I think they just underestimated the appeal of the place now that word is getting out. If they're smart, they'll fix the wait situation quick-- if not, people will stop going-- me included. He didn't want to do steak for two, which really is the benchmark of a Luger's wannabe. Instead, he had the boring filet mignon. I opted for prime rib, which was a special. It was adequate. The one I had at Keene's about a week later was 20 times better. I should've gone with my first instinct and tried the rib eye, I think. Luger's wins the battle of the bacon. Still, good mashed potatoes and excellent creamed spinach. Passed on dessert 'cause I'd already spent too much time with my boss. I want to give it another try before I truly pass judgement.
