Went there last night-- check out the thread that I started below.

In a nutshell, seems to be pretty close to having the Luger's meal down pat, though they had a major overcrowding problem last night (I got seated at 8:45 or 9 on a 7 PM reservation). I want to try it again when I can approach the steak more clearheaded (i.e. when I haven't been having beers at the bar for two hours before sitting down).

Thanks Sean! Don't know how I missed the below, however, so far no one has really done a good detailed review of the place. Thx again

why why why would anyone give credit to a restaurant that was so all over the place that it kept them waiting that long for a previously agreed reservation? would you turn up two hours late and still expect your table to be there? i don't care what the food's like - basic courtesy is part of any human experience. if they have no respect for their customers then i'll go somewhere else.

Sounded to me like they were disorganized, not disrespectful. I think the poster said they comp'd his table a bottle of wine.

Exactly--

Don't get me wrong-- 2 hours was unacceptable, I was pissed, and I hear of that happening to anyone again the place is off my list for good.

For this one time, though, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, because they're doing a good job with the food, they were very apologetic, and they've only been open for something like two weeks (and the place seemed mostly empty during those first weeks). I think they just underestimated the appeal of the place now that word is getting out. If they're smart, they'll fix the wait situation quick-- if not, people will stop going-- me included.

I was underwhelmed by Wolfgang's.

Mainly, I think, it was my boss' fault. He didn't want to do steak for two, which really is the benchmark of a Luger's wannabe.

Instead, he had the boring filet mignon.

I opted for prime rib, which was a special. It was adequate. The one I had at Keene's about a week later was 20 times better. I should've gone with my first instinct and tried the rib eye, I think.

Luger's wins the battle of the bacon.

Still, good mashed potatoes and excellent creamed spinach. Passed on dessert 'cause I'd already spent too much time with my boss.

I want to give it another try before I truly pass judgement. Also, some more time for them to hit their stride.

The room itself is great. And for how spare it is, it's remarkably not noisy.
