Any of you NY-ers ever visit restaurants/bars with Boxing history? Maybe an old-time boxer owns/owned it, or its a favorite hotspot for NYC fighters to eat. Boxing memorabilia on the walls, that sort of thing. Maybe the food's not good, hopefully it is, but the atmosphere is definitely authentic- that's where I'm looking forward to eating next.

I doubt they have food, but Jimmy's Corner on 44th in the blcok west of 6th Ave. has boxing memorabilia. It sticks out like sore thumb from the after work bars in the area, as it definitely qualifies as a dive.

I'm a fight fan and gym rat myself... in Manhattan, Jimmy's Corner (140 W. 44th st.) has an interesting collection of fight memorabilia.

There's a group of ex-boxers and fight fans who meet at the Waterfront Crab House in Queens in L.I.C. just over the river from Manhattan... they've also got alot of "fight memorabilia", gloves in famous fights, etc. etc. I know it's a bit off the Manhattan board, but it's so spot-on to your topic...
Waterfront Crab House, 2-03 Borden Ave, L.I.C. 718-729-4862. Call them and they can give you the times of the meetings, etc.

Also, you might want to call Gleason's Gym and Church Street Boxing Gym, two pro-caliber gyms and ask them, I'm sure they'd know alot of other places.

It's on 44th between Times Square and 6th, a couple of doors from Virgil's BBQ. Jimmy Glenn, who has operated the bar for just over thirty years, is a former heavyweight boxer, and has trained many fighters. For years he ran a gym in the area - and he may still do, I'm not sure. He is certainly still working in corners of top professional fighters; he's known as the best cut man in the business. He worked in Tyson's corner before the guy went nuts, and I saw him working a Garden fight just a few weeks ago. The bar is lined with boxing memorabilia. It used to be the best place to go to watch fights, but Jimmy gave up on pay-per-view because it just wasn't an economical option for him, even after charging his customers a few bucks.

If you're not interested in boxing, it remains one of the friendliest and most real bars in the city. I don't have shares in it, but I've been drinking there for thirteen or fourteen years.

No food, but the beer is cheap relative to the other spots in the area. Although, the beer selection is not very big.

If I recall correctly, the bar at Bill's Gay 90s has turn-of-the-century boxing photos on the walls. The food is fairly typical, but it's a fun place to go on Wednesday nights when Elliot is at the piano and everyone's singing along. I had a very memorable birthday party here.

Bill's Gay 90's is on 54th between Madison and Park.
