I fear I don't make the most of these markets. What is especially good to buy at each?

I've found the produce at Greenwich produce (two locations - as you enter either end of Grand Central- and not identical stock) good - esp. for cut jicama and cut mango. But there must be more I'm missing!

At Chelsea, I think the produce has improved, I'm not particularly partial to all their baked good operations (but fun to watch)and I like the seafood shop and think the salmon burgers to grill at home are both good and a good deal. But again, what am I missing?

I work directly across the street from Grand Central Market. It has much to recommend it, but by and large I find it over priced compared to Chelsea Market. Must have something to do with real estate. Having said that, I do like Murray's Cheese shop there--even if the staff lacks in quantities the courtesy and skill of the Bleecker Street location. The scallops and house smoked salmon at Wild Edibles are incomparable. One of the fishmongers there, Matt, is really superb. They were also very helpful in letting me know which fish bones were great for stock.

I love Chelsea Market for the Fruits and Vegetables and also the dried mushrooms. Great prices and great selection. Buon Italia is also unparallelled for olive oils, sweets, pastas, cookies and by all means the frozen fruit purees.

Best,
Freshie
