Seeing a lot of requests for the perfect restaurant to eat at for the next weeks on this board - filled with holiday joy, culinary delights & decent price. The NY Post's Steve Cuozzo is apparently getting asked the same question.
A link to his article is below, but his suggestions are below. Thoughts or comments?

1. Tamarind
2. Terrance Brennan's Seafood & Chop House
3. Trattoria Dell' Arte
4. Artisanal
5. Gabriel's
6. Le Colonial
7. Bellini
8. Payard Bistro
9. DB Bistro Moderne
10. Shun Lee Palace
11. Keens Steakhouse

Well, I wouldn't have provided that list, although db bistro moderne might have been included in my "longer" list. Here are my own thoughts as to a reasonable potential itinerary, if one were in the city during that period:

-- 24th: Lunch at Le Bernardin ($48 prix fixe in place; assuming one can get away from work after a 1/2 day)
Dinner at Danube (special menu at slightly less than $100/person)

-- 25th: Lunch or dinner at Dumonet ($95 prix fixe that offers choice among each of 4 courses) in The Carlyle

I think the NY Post was trying to pick some places that were less expensive than those you mentioned.

I see.

That's a good point, although I would rather, if I only had $60, take in the $48 prix fixe (with significant, regular lunch choices) at Le Bernardin and drink water, than pay $60 (with wine included) at some of the places indicated for dinner, from a cuisine perspective.

I agree with you there. I'd rather have lunch at Le Bernadin with water than dinner with wine at the places he mentions as well.

Just an aside here - I was at a dinner at Le Bernardin last night - the food is as fantastic as ever. Definitely agree about that choice.

I had lunch at La Caravelle yesterday - which is $42 for the standard prix fixe lunch. Absolutely lovely. I believe that lunch is available every day that they're open.
