baked ziti
Where can I find some good baked ziti in this town? You know, the old-fashioned kind where they smother it with mozzerella and ricotta and actually bake (not microwave) it in the oven?

My advice is that if you want good baked ziti you have to make it yourself. I have yet to find anything beyond just passable. Its really not that hard to make.

Get in your car or on a train and go to Oriental Blvd. in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, and go to Papa Leone's. Nice quiet neighborhood place with great baked ziti, and cheap too. Call ahead to make sure they're still there.

Has anyone found great baked ziti in Manhattan yet? Found some OK versions, but nothing out of this world. Just checked out Arturo's menu, and it indicates their version is baked penne (which is almost the same, but penne doesn't hold together as well as ziti after being baked).
Any recs are appreciated, thanks!

the only baked ziti i've had in manahattan has come from di palo's italian grocery down in little italy. it's really good, all you need do is pop it into your oven for 20 minutes or so.

My favorite in Manhattan (and please don't kick me off the Chow boards for saying this but really, I'm from Brooklyn where almost every baked ziti at every local pizza place is amazing) is Tony di Napoli. Touristy, corny, everything else sucks, but man do they know what they're doing with the ziti.

Why is it that you can find great baked ziti in 100 places in Brooklyn or even long island but barely anything decent in Manhattan? I agree that Tony D's is good but I've had better.

I'm not sure about baked ziti in NYC - but for something similar - try the lasagna at Apizz!
It is really really good
