I have a big pet peeve about people who send back the amuse when they go out to eat. I mean its a gift from the chef! Wouldnt you just taste it all or leave what you didnt like and call it a day?! I was out recently and I overheard someone sending the amuse back because of food allergies and a dislike of certain ingredients. I think this is insane! Let me know what you all think.

Well, to be honest, I have sent amuses bouches back in the past and I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Certainly, I feel a little sad when I can't taste the little treat I've been offered. But I'm vegetarian - so if I see meat or fish, I send it right back and the servers are usually quite understanding. In fact, I'm almost always offered an alternate amuse bouche when I do this (which I gladly accept). Also, I can't imagine why someone with food allergies would NOT send something back. True food allegies can send people into anaphylactic shock and kill them within minutes.

Sorry, but I support Amy in this. It's rather embarassing to send something this small back. If you don't like it, or can't eat it, just put it aside, and the busboy will remove it when he brings the next course.
