Alex Lee leaving Daniel

  • g

In NYT 'Dining In Dining Out' section. He'll leave in August and is going to be the chef at Glen Oaks Country Club on Long Island.

  1. It's good to know that just about anyone can be bought.

Unless you know the guy (and even if you do) I'd say that was a pretty mean-spirited and gratuitous remark.

I have had the unfortunate tale of dining at catering halls throughout the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, Upstate NY, and many other catering halls throughout the known world. I cannot understand WHY any CHEF would want to ruin their reputation by heading what I have seen to be the worst food served almost anywhere. This is not a stab at Glen Oaks Country Club on Long Island, by any means. It is a stab at ALL catering halls who's substandard fare is usually marginally edible, at best.

Maybe the guy is tired. Maybe the guy has been working as a number 2 for ten years and he's had enough. Maybe he wants a change in lifestyle. Maybe he has family obligations. Maybe he wants to work less. Maybe he wants to earn more money. The release in the NYT says the country club is near his home. Give the guy a break.

      2. I would agree. Working at Daniel will cause you to lose sleep and grind your teeth on the good days. Alex worked ten and twelve hour day, six days a week. It has nothing to do with being 'bought.' That's just mean.
