You are kidding right? I went to a Red Lobster once and it was DISGUSTING. The lobster tail was like mush. EWWWWW

I have no idea if it's "the best," but there is a quaint looking seafood spot on 2nd Ave. at 85th St. called Maine Lobster Seafood Restaurant. I haven't been yet, but it's high on my list.

Maine Lobster Co. fits squarely in the "good value" category. Low prices, OK quality, overworked staff. Nothing special.

I'm not sure if they're consistently the best, but you can definitely get the biggest in the city (they have monsters up to something like 8 lbs) at Francisco's Centro Vasco on 23rd Street btwn 6th and 7th Aves. Prices are really good, too.

there's only one place for lobster in this city:

Francisco Centro Vasco on 23rd Street between 6th and 7th Aves.

I also suggest that you order the fried shrimp there. Ask for extra tartar sauce. The garlic soup is fantastic as well as the baked clams.

I love this restuarant and have never been disappointed there.

PS. If you like sangria, you will love it here. I prefer the red to the white but that is just a matter of preference.

I've been going to Centro Vasco for 10 years and never once been disappointed with the lobster or any other dish we've had there. Get it broiled. Baked clams and shrimp al ajillo top notch, red sangria among the best I've had in the city.

My favorite go to place for lobster on a fancy night out is the Palm Restaurant or Sparks Steakhouse! Giants ones which they present in form that is dining friendly!!!!!! Your companions can also then have choice of other meat dishes.
