  1. That's a very limited area - are you open to walking a bit? Because if you do, you'll have better luck. There are some great restaurants on 9th avenue - specifically El Azteca for Mexican and Wondee Siam for Thai.

On 7th there's a greek place (Molyvos?) that's gotten some good word of mouth on this board, but I've never been there. 7th also has the Carnegie Deli, which I enjoy, despite it's overpriced touristyness.

I work a few blocks away from there, and outside of a couple of hotels on 6th avenue, and the Plaza, I can't think of any restaurant over there, aside from the dininig concourse at Rockefeller Center.

    good luck!

Le Colonial - great Vietnamese - 57th St., between Lex and Third.

      Trattoria Dell'Arte - Italian w/great atmosphere and a terrific antipasto bar - 7th Ave and 56th/57th St.

      Rue 57 Brasserie - 57th St. and 6th Ave.

      Tao - Pan-Asian - 58th St., Madison and Park.

Four Seasons Hotel, on 57th between Park and Madison, has some seriously fine food; it's also beautiful to look at

    2. the quickest (and still yummy) dinner would be at the Burger Joint in the lobby of the Parker-Meridien hotel on 57th between 6th and 7th.

      1. Teodoro 57th and Lexington
        RM 60th and Madison
        Oceana 54th and Madison
        Town 56th between 5th and 6th
Pazo 57 between Lex and Park
        Seppi's 56th between 6th and 7th

unfortunately Town, RM and Pazo have since closed... :-(

BTW, this thread is from 2003.

Ocean is still around, though it has moved!

        2. A little bit of a walk...... but one I don't see mentioned here often and one I really enjoy -- Cafe Atlas at 40 CPS (betw 5th & 6th).

          1. Check the menu to see if you like Brasserie 8 1/2, downstairs at 9 West 57th St., between 5th and 6th. Rue 57 is at the corner of 57th and 6th. There is nothing on Madison for blocks in both directions. Both 56th and 55th Streets are filled with restaurants on the block between 5th and 6th. You'll even find La Cote Basque there.

You haven't indicated what kind of food you want, or which meal, what type of food or price range, so it's difficult. If you're looking for great thin crust pizza, there's Angelo's on the north side of 57th between 6th and 7th. I think Manhattan Ocean Club is still on 58th just in from 6th toward 5th. Had lunch at Norma's in the Meridian yesterday and it was excellent. Not crowded.

If you give us all more to go on, we may be able to come up with more targeted information to help you.

            1. Treat yourself. Go to Harry Cipriani on Fifth Ave between 59th and 60th Streets.

              1. OK, if we're going to update this thread, people should try Ma Peche--moved into the Town spot on West 56 St. between 5th & 6th Aves.

Atlas also has closed (one of Paul Liebrandt's earlier restaurants). Not sure what restaurant has opened in the Four Seasons Hotel to replace L'Atelier. Benoit moved into the La Cote Basque location. Seasonal on W. 58 St. is also a good choice. Manhattan Ocean Club has also closed.
