I am going to Indian Row on East 6th tonight. Which one should I go to?

Ate at Banjara on Saturday night after the same Banjara/Brick Lane dilemma. Friends knew that Banjara had a bar to wait at so we chose Banjara (and since my wife and I were 1/2 hour late it came in handy). It was great. Service was very friendly. Would definitely go back. I recommend the lentils.

Do they have tandoori shrimp, the person I am going with will only have that. I hear its kind of eccletic but do they have basic dishes also?

I can't speak to Banjera, but I did like the place next door, Brick Lane. I'm pretty sure that it would have the shrimp if Banjera does not.

They do have basic dishes, but you have to read between the lines, because some of the basics are dressed up to sound more exotic. They have not one, but two kinds of tandoori shrimp. One they call Jhinga Til Tikka, and the other Banjara Jhinga Maslam. I have only had the first one. It is marinated in mint and sesame, and then broiled in the tandoor. The Jhinga Maslam is marinated in garlic and also broiled in the tandoor. The tikka was good - better than most shrimp tandoori you are likely to find on more conventional Indian menus. I like the decor there too. Much more comfy than most other 6th Street restaurants.

Thanks, very helpful postings. So, Banjara or Brick Lane?

                  Brick Lane less touristy

                    Banjara -- better food.
