Market Cafe is right around the corner from the theater and is a nice neighborhood place. Retro-dinery atmosphere, grilled meats, pastas...nothing fancy or wildly inventive but I've had brunch there and was surprised by the quality of the food. 39th and 9th.
Los Dos Rancheros is inexpensive, solid Mexican, right across the street from Market.
There is a Moroccan place on 9th near 40th that is nice. But I'm blanking on the name. Zitouene? The pheasant bastilla was memorably tasty. My only hesitation is that I didn't pay the bill so I can't factor the prices into my recommendation.
Further up 9th is a world of options within a 15 minute walk.
