32nd St between 5th and Broadway is Korean Town, a street filled with Korean restaurants.

My favorites are Dae Dong and Kujip. If you do a search on this page you can find many recommendations for restaurants on this block (as well as some a few blocks away).

I know this is for Manhattan, but I would to Flushing, Queens. Take the 7 to Main St. or take the LIRR from Penn to Murray Hill (yep, there are 2). It won't take too long for either. Anyway, by Main St. there are some, but most are on Northern Blvd. from Main (about, say 140st) easily into 170-180st. There all a lot of BBQ, etc, even Korean bars (sake, etc) and clubs.

also, for elegant atmosphere, you can't beat do hwa, which is in the w. village. they have amazing cocktails, and really good food. here's a review from this site:

you could also try dok suni, in the e. village -- same mother-daughter team runs it. the atmosphere is more casual than do hwa, but still very hip, and the food is great.

i'd also recommend KunJip. their bbq pork belly is the closest thing to what you'll get in korea. also their other meat dishes are of better quality than the other 32st norm. and i think the prices are about $2 cheaper than KangSuh...

There are so many good places in Koreatown that you probably cannot go wrong. In midtown east, there is also Korean Palace at 54th b/w Park and Lex which is good. As a beginner, be sure to try all of the little appetizers they bring out at the start of the mean (panchan), and I would suggest bibimbop as a traditional Korean dish. Watch out for the chiles in whatever you're eating. Good luck.
