Depends on what you want really. A good pub-type place is The Ear Inn or Fannellis. Fannellis is on Prince, towards Broadway.

Arturo's pizza on Houston and Thompson is pretty good with good live jazz.

If you want something more upscale there is Aquagrill and Fiamma on 6th Ave and Spring.

my post film-forum fallback is always Lupe's East L.A. Kitchen. It's on 6th Ave between Spring and Canal. The food is sort of cal-mex, and they have excellent margaritas and aguas frescas. I love the spinach enchiladas, in particular.

just adding on here...

Kati Roll company on MacDougal (indian fast food)

Cotan, 3rd at Macdougal (sashimi)

Meskerem 124 Macdougal Street, surprisingly decent ethiopian (I prefer their veg stuff)
Bar Pitti 268 6 Ave 982-3300 (tuscan peasant food; haven't been in ages, order carefully, tab adds up; I like the fetunta and fried eggs in tomato sauce)

Petite Abeille 466 Hudson at barrow 741-6479 (belgian cafe; haven't been in ages)

don't like brothers barbecue, sorry, ruby (unless they've gotten a lot better and I missed it...?)

ciao
