Fresh epazote grows freely all over Central Park and lots of other places in New York. You just need to know what to look for. There is a Diana Kennedy story about finding it growing in NYC . Wish I could post a link to it.

If you go outside of Manhattan, there are plenty of places in Jackson Heights/Corona in Queens or Sunset Park in Brooklyn to find these items. In Manhattan, you should check out the Mexican groceries in Spanish Harlem near 116th and 2nd or 3rd Ave (maybe Lex). Also, you might be able to find them at the Mexican delis/groceries that are popping up around the far west side of Hell's Kitchen around 10th or 11th Ave in the 40s.
