Called 5 points today and asked them to fax me their menu and they said they would not?!!! Couldn't believe it. I'm thinking of bring a party of abot 10 here and they won't fax me a menu? Then I asked if she could describe the menu, and she replied that it changes daily. I then asked what today's menu was and she refused to tell me that?!!! Makes me not want to go here ever, but I have read nothing but glaring reviews on the food here. Although 90% of the reviews are for the Sunday Brunch, so I'm wondering the following:

1. Does anyone know where to find a sample menu online, or can anyone post a sample menu that has eaten dinner here.

2. Those that have eaten dinner here, can you give a quick review and your thoughts on the setting, food, service, etc.

Thanks in advance,
chucky

Amazon.com has menus. Perhaps the following will help, although these are sometimes outdated menus.

I happen to like this restaurant a hell of a lot.

Excellent wine list as well.

But why would you want to go there after that??? Its not like we live in Podunk and this is the only place in town!
I think when a hostess treats you that way and you still go, it only enpowers that person to continue to act that way.

Amen! If I were treated that way, that restaurant would never see a dime of my money. There are many wonderful restaurants in NYC that value patrons and make it their business to show it. For example, on another thread, a poster mentioned that he was from out of town and had been put on the wait list at Chanterelle. The owner, Karen Waltuck, later called him herself to say that a table had become available. When the poster told her that he had already made arrangements to eat at Nobu, she told him that she was pleased that he would be eating in the neighborhood and hoped that the next time he was in NYC, he would be able to dine at Chanterelle. Now, that's the kind of treatment that bespeaks a restaurateur who knows how to treat a perspective customer!

I know it's no fun to be treated rudely by some idiot hostess, but why should the resturant have to suffer for the actions of one (rather unimportant) member of the staff. If you really feel wronged, call the manager/owner or anyone of authority - chances are they don't even know about this behavior, you'll really be doing them a favor. Unfortunately the masses of actors/models in NYC have to be employed somewhere - and some of them are just a little bitter that it has to be in a resturant (don't punish all the hard working resturant workers because of one hostess).

Employees reflect the attitude of management - I'm sure (in fact know) others who have complained about this type of rudeness and attitude at Five Points and clearly the owners/ managers just don't care. The food may be good but I simply will not give MY hard earned $ to places where they treat me as if they are doing me a favor. There are many, many places that somehow manage to employ people (aspiring actors and all) who are pleasant and that's where I spend my money.

I've eaten at the restaurant several times as it is very near where my wife works (well, used to work). I love the room, which is pretty spacious for typical long narrow Manhattan space, and it is a good restaurant for groups as they have a very wide range of things on their menu, and often interesting specials. For the most part the kitchen does a fine job of turning these various items out (I particularly like their hand with meats). And, as someone else mentioned, they do have a fine and interesting wine list. The prices are also pretty fair too.

However, I have also run into attitude problems with the hostesses (although definitely not with the waitstaff), and have been treated to some rather unseemly shows of of coldness, and some strange ad hoc rule-making. I agree with others who say that you may want to consider going elsewhere given that sort of treatment over the phone to a prospective customer.

I happen to be a huge fan of Five Points and eat there at least once a week. The food is consistently great, and the staff is always friendly. The menu does change pretty regularly.. I wish the Boar Stew would come back (especially in this weather)!

I bring everyone there... clients, visitors, etc. knowing that they will enjoy the experience and they do, without fail.

Once observation is that the recent press has put a bit of a strain on their resources, perhaps the hostess was feeling a bit taxed. Since the press, it's frequently overcrowded and not the friendly neighborhood spot it was. The food though is still excellent.

i am so sorry to hear that some had a bad experience at 5 points, which is one of my most favorite restaurants in nyc. i go there frequently and have nothing but the best things to say about it. i love the room, i love the food and i especially love the people. i find everyone friendly and more than accomodating. it's like a comfort zone for me. in fact, right after 9/11, my husband and i wanted to go somewhere (besides union square park) to connect with our neighbors and 5 points was the place we and many others were drawn to.
