Hi, I am French and a real chowhound.

I shall spend one week in NYC, and am looking for good places.

I read about Amy Ruth, which looks like typical about southern food (soul food)

Would you suggest this place for breakfast on week days ? (I already read about the brunch)

Would you suggest for lunch or dinner ?

Last question, which are the most interesting soul food specialities you may find there ?(being French, I eat everything from rabbitt to snails and frogs !)

Amy Ruth serves primarily fried chicken with waffles, and pork chops, which are both good. It's way out of the way of traditional NYC attractions and is a small place with little atmosphere. The food is OK. If you're in Manhattan for a short time I would skip Amy Ruth, Sylvia's etc... None of the soul food restaurants in the city serve above average food. They cater to tourists so the seasoning is bland. Also, they generally don't serve adventurous species of animals. That said, I liked Amy Ruth when I went. I got the chicken wings with waffles, collard greens and mac & cheese.

Maroons is on W 16th St near 7th Ave. It serves both southern (i.e., "soul") and Caribbean food. I've attached a link to its web site so you can read the menu.

If you do want to go up to Harlem for soul food, there have been some great reports about Margie's Red Rose Diner. Here's the first thread about the place, with a detailed report:
