<content>What do I know about buying hors d'oeuvres for parties? I generally just bring dozens of baby empanadas and/or corn fritters from a great Colombian bakery I know. What better hors d'oeuvre could there possibly be?

Well, a friend's giving a shmancy party, and wants precious little nuggets of Purina Rich Guy Chow. Not empanaditas. Budget's not a problem, though I don't think he's looking for little Kobe roulades or anything really over-the-top.

Where's good?

<content>Thanks, Anil, but it was my fault for not being clear. This isn't do-it-yourself...he wants someone to pull up in a van and bring in ready-to-heat stuff. Or, at very very least, a single place to go and pick up ready-to-heat stuff.

<content>Jim, My daughter recommends William Poll. She *thinks* he has a lot of things available frozen, to be thawed and reheated. I'll attach a link that I found. Have your friend give this outfit a call.

<content>There used to be a hors d'oeuvres/catering storefront operation right on the south side of Houston, just west of Allen. Don't have more information at this point, will see if they are open on my way to work tomorrow.

Also Dufour Pastry Kitchens: (212) 929-2800 may have what is needed, am not fully abreast of their whole product line. I believe they sell retail @ Gourmet Garage, but their main kitchen is at 25 9th ave, corner of 13th. They keep odd hours there, so phone is probably best. I would always see workers there at late hours on the my way back to my old apt on little west 12th street; back when the only other people on the streets were the meat guys and the trannies.

Also a friend recently pulled off a 35th bday using Whole Foods catering/ready-to-[h]eat department. He did well over the internet, possibly your friend could do even better ordering in person.

I guess it would be possible that any one of the upscale supermarkets would have a large enough selection to fill your friends needs.

For a random idea, maybe your friend could call over to one of the cooking schools and hire a couple of students to come prepare hot food right in his kitchen; provided it was a large enough kitchen space and [s]he was inclined to have strangers in the house cooking during a party.

<content>It might make sense for him to focus on his favorite restaurants who could rise to the occasion and cater a spread-

What about that UES Turkish, recently opened (is it Beyoglu?) with the enthusiastic chef owner, which specializes in meze? Im sure a place like that could prepare an over-the-top meze selection if asked to pull out the stops.

Acquavit is another that comes to mind - maybe they could cater a mini smorgasbord, hot and cold.

And along that same line, a beautifully sliced smoked salmon, with accompaniments, would probably be popular.

Your friend needs to consider serving arrangements - is he going to have someone to put the food on platters, serve it, etc? Will he need to keep it hot? He wont want to put out the tin foil containers that most food will be delivered in.</content>
