My wife and I are going to show at 50th and Broadway. Would like suggestions for moderately priced yet very good italian or seafood restaurants. We would like to go after the show, perhaps around 6:00. Would prefer to stay away from the tourist trap places. We would be willing to walk 7-8 blocks in any direction if necessary. This is my first request for help from the message board, hope you can help.
                                   thanks much

You don't have to walk very far -- ViceVersa (w 51st betw 8th & 9th) for creative Italian, moderately priced too. My choice for Italian in the area and not a tourist trap.

For something totally non-threatening my family really enjoyed the food and ambience at Blue Fin. It was stylish and hip enough and the fish quality was superb. The sushi and oysters I ordered were good and my family enjoyed their cooked fish. When they're happy I'm happy if you know what I mean.

enjoy!

My family likes Osteria al Doge at 142 West 44th. Think its between 6th and Broadway, which is the high end of your 7 block range. We've been three times and now it's time for us to try ViceVersa.

Trattoria Tre Colore on W. 45th St., btw B'way & 6th, is a very pleasant Italian, definitely not "touristy," though I presume, since the restaurant is in the Theater District, that some of the diners may be visitors to NYC. We have eaten there many times and always found the food to be well-prepared -- nothing fancy, but very tasty. For dessert, if you like tiramisu, their version is fabulous! Service is excellent. Prices are moderate.

Well, we went to Nyc yesterday. Had a great time. We tried to get into ViceVersa but there were no openings. THis was also true for La Revista. I spent some time going thru past reviews on the message board and finally decided on Nocello (257 W. 55st, b/t Broadway and 8th). This was also reccommended by Arthur Schwartz of WOR710 radio. We had a very nice dinner. We both opted for one of their specials. I had the venison. It was prepared in a sweet and sour cherry sauce with some sort of goat cheese concoction on top. It sounds kind of funky, but believe me it was very very good. This was probably the best venison I have ever had. My wife had stuffed veal with proschutto, spinach and cheese. That too was very good. We shared an appetizer of grilled calamari over salad greens and balsamic vinegar. Very tender and tasty. For dessert, one tiremisu, very good and one choc. mousse. Good but did not like the fact that it came frozen. Also bread was good but nothing special. One should know that the tables are very small and situated very close to each other. We actually had easy conversation with the people to either side of us. While most of the entres were in the$15 to $19 range the specials we had jumped to $27 each. We did not ask the price of the specials when we ordered, so were a little surprised when the bill came. We probably would have ordered them just the same. SO, at the end 1 appetizer, 2 cocktails, 2 dinners,2 dessert, coffee and tea the bill came to $96 plus tax and tip. All said it was a good dining experience and we would recommend it.

Ps "MAMA MIA" is a must see, it was great!!!!!
