Cafe Margaux (sp?) on Prince and Mott is good for French bistro fare. Le Poeme (on Prince and Elizabeth), when it's good is very good and unique, but often they are not up to par. The Kitchen Club is supposed to be quite good though i have never been there. On Mulberry and Houston is an ethiopian place whose name I can't remember; the food was good but expensive and I have had much better ethiopian food elsewhere.

Bistro Margot - Good place. Standard French Bistro fare. Nice garden (lot's o' good that does you now)

Le Poeme - Closed for a while now!

Ghenet (Mulberry st, jst below houston) - Ethopian, talk about bang for the buck. Cheap, great food. My favorite place in the hood.

Clay - Mott street. Don't go here.

Bread - Great, inexpensive, hip. Not your standard 'dinner' fare though. Lots of sandwiches and meat/cheese platters. Only 4 or 5 bottles of standard wine on the list..... But I still love the place. Good for a date....

Cafe Habana - Good food, nice crowd but too crowded IMHO.

Cafe El Porto (Mexican) on Elizabeth (basement space), just south of Spring is quite nice. Pretty damn good food for the price (although they can be a bit heavy on sauces - request they go light). Good Sangria. Sometimes they have a quiet band in the corner.

Uh, Le Poeme closed?! I guess moving out of the hood 9 months ago is taking its toll on me. Thanks for the recommendations for places to eat there.

Had dinner at Rialto (Elizabeth, near Houston) with 5 friends a few wknds ago and was pleasantly surprised. Not terribly expensive, good service, very good calamari and veggie burger. Upscale American food, very cute restaurant altogether.
