best stuffed derma?

OK guys, here's a good chowhound question. Who makes the best stuffed derma (kishka) in the city? I am relatively new to this culinary delight, having been previously turned off by the vile decription of meat drippings stuffed in a beef casing. But I just tried my neighborhood place on Essex (not sure of the name but it's a little glatt kosher place between grand and east broadway) and the stuff is delicious!

  1. The old Wolf's on 57th (which is now closed, to my great consternation). Does anyone else have a more helpful answer? :-)

Wolf's still exists...a block or two west of the old site on the same side of 57th

    2. I like it at Carnegie Deli.
I suspect that 2nd Avenue Deli makes a decent one, but I've never tried it.

Yes, the 2nd Avenue deli makes excellent kishke (the Yiddish term). Reminded me of my childhood. Be warned, though, that the portion they give you is absolutely huge--enough for 3-4 people.

Seconded! Delicious and HUGE. I'd say big enough for 2 people rather than 3 or 4, but I'm sort of a glutton.

      2. Years ago (before my heart problems), I would buy the most delicious derma at Williams Bar-B-Que Poultry. 86th St and Broadway. Give them a call at 362-5307, they have wonderful take-out for an easy tasty meal. (Also loved their chopped liver.)

Though it still is a mystery as to exactly what it in it.....2nd AVE Deli (on 33rd ST btw' Lexington and 3rd AVE)has fabulous kishka. I took some slices home and heated them in a very hot oven for 10 minutes, turning to brown the tops - so they were beautifulyy crispy - oh my, orgasmic!! Nice and spicy too. Not for the faint of stomach. (Grease the pan before heating or they will stick.)
