Looking for a few good slices for dinner in midtown. Needs to have seating. Preferably a sit down place, but cafeteria style is fine as long as there's seats and tables.

what kind of pizza?

two boots under rockefeller center for crunchy crust and fun toppings

naples 45 (metlife building)for wood fired style -- order it at take-out register and eat there at the small tables in front -- same pizza, less than 1/2 the price!

viva natural, 34th and 5th, for interesting crusts (ww, spelt, cornmeal, etc) and different toppings

there are more...

Thanks again for the Viva Natural recommendation. I took someone there who can't eat wheat, dairy, or tomatoes and was still able to order a pizza stright off their menu. She was very happy to be eating something (anything) pizza-like. :)

venezia which has several branches makes a really great eggplant parm pizza -I guess their regular is good too but with the thin breaded eggplant it's great.

They are on 2nd avenue around 49th or 50th on the east side of second.

I can safely say the pizza in midtown SUCKS.
Let me be specific:

THE ULTIMATE PIZZA
1st Avenue off 57th Street
this is the most edible, but lackluster
like cardboard, unsatisfying

ANGELO'S PIZZA
2nd Avenue & 55th St.
sit down.
a distant cousin to John's etc,
but somehow this didn't really do it either.

RAY BARI
aweful.

Fresco by scotto
40 East 52nd
don't know if you'd even call this one pizza...

Famous Original Ray's Pizza
Lex (62/63)
I made due with this for awhile, thought
it was the best, then one day i ordered
a pie and it tasted like soap.

There's also a pizzeria on 2nd Avenue
near 53rd Street that is okay, but again,
not great....

An individual pizza (about $6.95) at the Amish Market on 45th Street bet 2nd & 3rd. They have seating and the atmosphere is nice. It sure beats heated up slices and the price is the about the same and they use quality ingredients.

i also like Abitino's on 2nd and 39th. It's not the best, but it's a cut above the ubiquitous pizzeria on every block in the area.

I don't get it. I tried Pizza 33 a few months ago on the recommendations on this board and was disappointed. I had a regular slice and it had to be one of the worst examples of street pizza I have ever had. Give me Sal & Carmine's on Bdwy an time.

THerin lies your mistake.

The Margherita slice is the only slice worth ordering there.

It is amazing to me that everyone on Chowhound recommends the margherita slice, and then people stray away from what the place does best and then complain.

Te regular slice is as mediocre as the Margherita slice is sublime.

Sal & Carmine's cheese is kind of nasty IMHO.
