Mustards, Terra, Bistro Jeanty - solid choices...

for 3 dinners over a holiday wkend?

I struggled to choose and am just seeking confirmation that these choices are the right ones. Especially struggled over Mustards, b/c I couldn't tell from the postings if Martini House or Roux were better bets.

Feedback would be much appreciated!

  1. Mustards is a fantastic choice. Chef Cindy Pawlcyn's style is called, "Truck stop deluxe", and the food is sophisticated and honest. You'll have a great meal, and some fun to boot.

      In late February at Mustards we had: Mixed spring green salad and crab cakes for Ann. I had a bitter greens salad with apples and Opah (Hawaiian Moon Fish) with morel mushroom sauce and grilled polenta. Always good, we have been dining there for YEARS and have yet to be disappointed. I think lunch is better in MHO than dinner, but that's my opinion.

        I agree about Mustards being more of a lunch place, although it often costs as much as dinner. It is easier to get in mid-afternoon.

        It's also not the kind of place I usually like--sort of an SF Marina place, preppy, with upscale American food. But time after time, meals there have been excellent. My favorites are the Chinese chicken salad and the onion rings, or any kind of chops.

    2. I just want to put in another plug for Roux -- I've eaten several "nice" dinners since then, and been slightly disappointed. Then I realize that I've been comparing them unfavorably to Roux.

      The caveat: it was one meal for one person. I don't know if it is reasonable to generalize from that.
