re: shocker
Vietnamese restaurants in SF mostly serves for non-vietnamese customers. Bo 7 Mon is a specialty item, so only vietnamese restaurants in San Jose serve authentic dishes.
For Bo 7 Mon, go to the restaurant of the same name, "Bo 7 Mon Anh Hong" in San Jose in the LION Plaza at 1818 Tully Rd. San Jose.
It's inside the LION Plaza. Look for the food court, the restaurant is on the right hand side next to the food court.
While you're there, look for Pho Hoa and "Nha Trang" restaurant. Pho Hoa serves beef noodle soup and "Nha Trang" serves a lot of vietnamese specialty dishes.
There are many other specialty restaurants in San Jose, but for starters, I think these 3 restaurants won't dissappoint you.-

re: shocker
After listening to all the comment I went and tried all three Location, Tully , San francisco and Milpitas. I have to agree the One on Tully really sucks. The service was lousy and the waiters were rude. I found out they had 6 or seven places, all related, but The best one is in Milpitas and San francisco. Milpitas is more better service and the food taste more fresh, the one in san franciscois is more noisy but also very good compare to San jose.

re: Frank
I agree, the one in San jose is terrible, the food was ok but the staff and service is very rude. Every time we ask for something, we get that wierd look from them like we ow them money. I prefer the in Milpitas It gives better service and the food is alot better. I don't think they are related though. Haven;t tried the one in San francisco yet. I let you know later on that one.

re: chowow
Anh Hong in San Francisco: I've heard from a Vietnamese friend that it is THE BEST, much better than the one in San Jose. I haven't been there myself.
Anh Hong in San Jose: get ready for the rude waiters. Know where the kitchen is so you go and get whatever you need yourself: good luck getting it from the wait staff. Not only they make you feel you're bothering them, they SAID IT to my brother-in-law's party.
My and many others experiences.
People recommended me to go to Milpitas; same chain, more courteous. (Haven't been there myself)-
re: Suu Quan
You probably have one bad experience, however, that doesn't mean their food is not good. The one in SF probably has better service but not better food.
If you don't know something, ask. Before you order, let them know that you go all the way from San Fran to try their Bo 7 Mon. Don't act like you know-it-all kind of person or they'll be rude to you.

re: LImster
Just went there today. The wait staff was not very helpful, but it was a busy day (New Years).
We had the 7 flavors of beef. I thought it was only okay.
We also had a dish where they put a shrimp fish ball around a piece of sugar cane and then fried it. It also tasted so-so, but was hard to eat.
