Hi, everyone -
My husband and I will be spending two weeks in Saratoga this August, and as he's very particular about food -- and I'm unfamiliar with the area -- I was wondering if anyone who knows the food scene in Saratoga Springs (or the surrounding area) might have any suggestions. Thanks!

Hattie's in Saratoga makes some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. Definitely do not miss eating there.

There is also a store that specializes in Hot Sauce... the whole store is lined with different bottles and all sorts of knick knacks with chilli's on them. I can't remember the street but Saratoga (the area with all the shops) is so tiny, you could ask anyone and they'd be able to direct you.

Best,

The Hot Sauce store is on Phila St.

Saratoga has its share of great restaurants:
Chez Sophie on Route 9...Excellent French food!
43 Phila-American... Fabulous!
Chianti on Broadway... owner is from Rome who transformed long john silver's into mediterranean beauty...great restaurant...good value
Sperry's- good food asian and lousiana accents
on Caroline St
Siro's-open only during racing season next to race track- high-rollers $$$
Mrs. London's-0n Broadway stylish cafe-great pastries!

Hope that helps!

I ate at Hattie's two weekends ago and it continues to be very good and an excellent value. The chicken was as good as ever, the greens were possibly the best I've ever had and my friend's jamabalya was tasty (and properly spicy unlike most that's served int he northeast). I was not impressed with the peach cobbler or the strawberry shortcake. Perhaps the pecan pie is better. I just read somewhere (perhaps egullet.com?) that 43 Phila has really gone downhill. Just hearsay but best to look into it. Be sure to try Bruno's on Union Ave across from the race track. It's a casual Italian place with some of the best wood fired pizza I've ever tried (and they were cooking it that way years before it became trendy elsewhere). You can also get some good espresso drinks at Uncommon Grounds on Broadway.

LIvi, you might want to re-post this on the Tristate Board, since Saratoga Springs is upstate, and not in Manhattan. You're likely to get a better response there. Have a good trip!
