You didn't specify whether you want a sit-down or take-out.

Sit-down include - Tony's on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn near Lincoln.
Maroon's on W16th between 7th & 8th Ave. Manhattan
Island Spice on W46 near 9th Ave.

Otherwise, you have the chain of Golden Krust which is all over - http://goldenkrustbakery.com

Take-Out/Lunch - Lunch Truck (I think from Trini) on Front Street between Maiden Lane/Pine between 11-3pm in lower Manhattan.

I hear Daphne's on 14th (bt 2nd & 3rd Aves) has some decent jerk. Haven't been by to try it, but the name pops up here every so often, and it's definitely on my list. I think it's more of a take-out joint, but might have a few tables.

Also curious about the Royal Jerk Jamaican restaurant going up on E. Houston, right at Suffolk, next to the Blockbuster. Hope it's good...

I second the nom for Daphne's (which also earns a big, big thumbs up from a food-loving Jamaican pal) and yes, they do have tables. The jerk is good, but I'm hard-pressed to pull myself away from the codfish & callaloo long enough to try anything else. When I have, though, it's been good - escovich was a delight and the Festival, quite festive.

Never heard the term before. What's the derivation?

BTW: Scotch Bonnet, somewhere near Herald Square in the 30s is NOT a place to try. Others here have agreed. And opinions are mixed about Brawta, on Atlantic Ave. in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. But you might want to try them and give us your assessment.

Yard aka Jamaica
Jamaican people aka Yardies!

Scotch Bonnet on W 31 or 32 is not desirable - food is acceptable and priced higher than a MUCH better Maroon's!
Brawta on Atlantic in Brooklyn is fair!

Thanks, Roosevelt. You confirmed my thoughts. We used to have a Jamaican place just down the block from me -- Yummy Crust -- that made it through the post-9/11 difficulties, but then just vanished overnight a couple of months ago. I miss them so much.
