Having moved to Portland, OR from NYC, I have to say I never really noticed it in NYC but you can't spit without hitting some here. (...not that the very polite Portlanders would ever do such a thing...)

I'm sure that you can find some mail order, certainly Made in Oregon would sell it, but I would find a good source that makes it and sells it directly.

I've had some very good salmon jerky from a place in San Francisco. Lots of places will mail order from there, but I haven't seen it in NYC yet.

I haven't tried this delicacy yet, but I noticed that the fishmonger's in Grand Central Market sell it in foil packages. I'm talking about the fishmonger's that's by the entrance that opens out onto the terminal, not the one that opens out onto the street. They sell it right by the registers.

I had some great salmon jerky last fall that a friend had brought back from alaska and have craved it ever since. Last week I bought a small pkg for about six bucks at that fish store in the grand central station food arena. It was fine, kind of too sweet, not nearly as good as the aformentioned alaskan treat.

I saw Salmon Jerky (as well as Ahi-Tuna, Turkey and Beef) in the Amish Market in Hell's kitchen (9th ave b/t 49 and 50).

Didn't look like anything fancy. Made by Snackmaster's (??) and sold in the usual thick plastic, resealable bags.
