So since we're not going to split the board ....
- Ruth Lafler
I'm glad Jim decided not to try to split up the board -- I'd rather have the large and chaotic but busy, vibrant community we have than several shadows of their former selves.
Let's all try a little harder to make it more geographically user friendly.
If I may suggest:
1) Putting both the name of the restaurant and a geographical locator (city or region, not neighborhood, see below) in the subject line). Since the search engine doesn't work for over half the posts on the board, this will have the dual benefit of helping people filter out stuff they aren't interested in and finding stuff they are interested in with the "find" (control F) function. Spelling it correctly in the header is helpful, too.
2) Being more specific about where things are. If you like a place enough to recommend it, take a couple of seconds to search for the address. Sure you know what you mean by "across from that really lousy pizza place on the other side of the street from Safeway" but how many other people do? Neighborhood names are okay for people who live nearby, but about as helpful as Greek to the rest of us. Remember some people reading your message are not just from another part of the Bay Area, some of them are from other parts of the country, even other countries. So please, please, please take a couple of extra seconds to be as precise as possible -- it will benefit everyone, including you, when thanks to some hound's thoughtfulness you find great chow in territory unfamiliar to you.
Thank you all my fellow hounds in advance!
