It's constantly hyped on all the NY networks because it is owned by the family of a high-profile NY TV reporter (Rosanna Scotto)

I've been there. It's on the good side of mediocre, but if you factor in the high prices it leaves a lot to be desired. Pretty, if cramped, room, good service, semi-interesting northern Italian menu....food is average at best, though.

Good side of mediocre is a great description. If you're going to spend that much money on Italian food in that neighborhood, go to San Pietro, on 54th, between 5th & Madison. Better food and much more interesting menu - food of the Amalfi coast. Friendlier, too.
