I've never been to Murray's before today so I don't know if this is a new thing, them having a sandwich press ... my original mission was to buy a few stiltons. This was at lunch time and I noticed some people getting sandwiches pressed. They have a few different pre-made sandiches on focaccia, which they will press on request.

It was wonderful. I can't remember all the ingredients but it definitely had mortadella, mozarella, tomatoes, and some greens (arugula?). All for a very reasonable $5.95.

Oh and the stiltons look gorgeous by the way.

Those sandwiches are genius. My only complaint is that I usually only buy them when I'm on the hoof, and they really make me want to drink a glass of wine.

Murray's (and those sandwiches . . . mmmm) was how I discovered I had a dairy allergy. I'd haul home a chunk of artisanal blue cheese, eat it (with a little bread and wine) for lunch, get sick. I'd buy a sandwich, eat it on the run, get sick. This process went on for well over a year (I lived nearby), not because I'm an actual idiot, but because I couldn't accept the idea that anything negative could be attributed to fabulous fresh cheese. Sigh. Now I find that if I just don't eat the dang stuff every day, I have a fighting chance. Oh, the suffering we do for the food we love.

But yes, Murray's is fantastic.

Murray's Cheese Store was recently featured on Tony Bourdain's show on the Food Network. It looks like a great place for cheese.
