Lincoln Center restaurants?

Dear Chowhounds,

Are there any good places around the Lincoln Center area? I was under the impression that there were a lot of not-so-great tourist places, but I'm going to that area tonight and was wondering if you all had any ideas. Thank you.

  1. Do you like steak? If so, I would recommend the 63rd Street steakhouse across the street from Lincoln. It's above some hotel (I forget which) - a posh one, whatever that's worth.

The steaks are awesome. Try the flank steak that is so big it's folded and still goes off the large plate. Good luck eating that. My GF once had a fish dish and it was spectacular. Service is alright, friendly but not the best you've ever had. I might have said something negative about their service before in a previous post, but it really isn't that bad (at least not as bad as Mesa Grill). Price .... PRICEY. nuff said. They also have a cigar bar but that aint my style :-) so I don't know if it's any good.

Have fun at the Lincoln - and make sure you go in jeans ... :-)

It's above the Empire Hotel across from Dante Park.

By the way you aren't too far from Cafe des Artistes on W. 67th(?) My favorite romantic NYC place or much closer, Gabriel's on W. 62nd(?)

Really? I'm surprised. Maybe they gave away too much meat for the money ...

I went there a few times after playing croquet in Central Park on week nights. After the Lincoln Center crowd left. I always enjoyed it. Great steaks and service. And not that crowded after 7:45PM or so. That only leaves Mormandos Steakhouse on West 71st Street, just east of Columbus, as the only steakhouse in the immediate area. That begs the question, is there a lot of restaurant business, from the locals, for the restaurants in the Lincoln Center area, after 7;45 or 8:00 PM.?

              that's what I wonder too :-)

Yep, that's right. It's gone, too. Now some bar & grill type place.

I left too soon to get all of your wonderful suggestions. I would really like to try Gabriel's. We ended up grabbing some quick pasta at a place called Pomodoro.

        2. I would recommend Sapphire at the corner of Broadway & 60th Street. Fantastic upscale Indian cuisine. West 63rd Street Steakhouse no longer exists.
