Yes. We just recently moved to this neighborhood and were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon Carne the other night. They said they had been open for 1 week. Great atmosphere and service. Had a wonderful dinner, steak, ceasar salad, etc. Simple unpretentious menu with an interesting selection. And what I consider a good sign...they made a very good martini!

We'll be back again soon.

We ate there Friday nite. The place was jammed; they probably get three turns... the kitchen's last call is midnight.

The menu is interesting -- completely lacking in adjectives (e.g. Pork chops. Pasta. Lamb shanks). The specialty seems to be two steaks..22 oz rib steak, 10 oz filet. Each comes with (in fact, all the "mains" come with) a choice of one from a good selection of sides....sauteed spinach, dauphine potatoes, etc. Additionally, each "main" comes with a choice of sauce, on the side. So the menu is essentially a modular one. Build your meal to suit yourself.

There's a good selection of appetizers; we had the deep fried oysters (good), deep fried onion rings (good, good), and blue corn-dredged calamari (oversalted and a bit overdone). For mains we had grilled shrimp (a little overdone, double pork chop (at the edge of being overdone) and rib steak (just right); great potatoes, and sauteed spinach; again, someone had a heavy hand with the salt shaker....and I like my salt.

There were three desserts; apple tart, creme brulee and cheesecake, which we skipped.

As for the cocktails, the mojito, caipirina and martini were all a cut above average.

The steaks, by the way, the most expensive item on the menu, were $17.75.

All in all, four of us wound up paying $132 (including 20% tip.)

Net net, good value for the money. A useful addition to the Upper West Side.

Next stop....Manu

We went last week - thought it was pretty terrible. Wife's lamb shank had hot and cold spots - a sign of microwaving? Burger was okay, but the fries were inedibly greasy/limp. Spinach salad right out of a Del Monte bag. Lame excuse for the breadbasket: Carr's with some sort of watered-down cream cheese spread. And how could a $17 steak be any good? But the new million dollar homesteaders in the neighborhood will flock to this place (many with kiddies in tow), so it will no doubt thrive, along with Mama Mexico and the like.
