A while ago I noticed this kind of cute pastry shop near my office, called D'Aiuto's New York Cheesecake or something like that, on 8th Ave and 52nd. They look like they ought to have some really good stuff and I've been back there a few times since then in search of what is good, each time ending up with something bad instead. But today I had their coffee cake and it was quite good. Sort of like challah with swirls of compote baked into it. If you go there, stay away from the non-coffee cake cakes and the cookies. They also have things like mousse and creme brulee that look very good but too rich for my midday tastes.
