Ate at Blue Smoke this week...
Now I know it JUST opened, but I'd like to think Danny would have it more together. i was kinda unimpressed.

heres the rundown...

BadNews 1st:
price vs. portion is way off at times...3 half size beef ribs for $14? (you can get a better all you can eat bbq for less + the waitress told us 6 came in a 1/2 order, we got 3)

beef ribs - tiny portion, no flavor
baby back - good flavor, undercooked
st. louis - ok
pulled pork and the brisket were flavorless and dry
meat was served at room temp

Whats Good:
balogna + cole slaw sandwich - very cool, reasonable at 8.50
deviled eggs - very good
fry bread - very good
links n pickles - good idea and texture, no sauce
burnt endz chili

NO CORN ON THE COB - wussup with that?

DESSERT: Toffee pudding thing - ok
Banana Cream Pie - good, but ive had much better
Sweet Potato Pie - ok
Vanilla Shake w/espresso shot - tasty

OVERALL:
GO WITH THE APPS!!!
It WAS the 1st night, so give em a break right? BUT theyve had previews and tastings, etc...they ran out of LEMONS and ONIONS!!!

If you're gonna do overpriced BBQ, it better be really good. and this wasn't. Especially from DM, he should do better. Might as well go to the Hog Pit. They've at least got scantily clad waitresses...i shouldve known when i saw tom brokaw, that i should bust out...i mean does HE know bbq? yeah right! I guess the question is how long to wait to go back?!?!? but i wouldnt send anyone there yet. If they get the entrees happening, it will improve a lot. But i'm sure it doesn't matter...up by murray hill, it'll be a scene for a while. :)

thanks for the report. they may need time to get their act together. The beef ribs actually aren't that expensive...they're also real expensive at Pearson's in Queens. It's cuz they're heavy.

I have been here twice, and both times it was awful. The BBQ pork arrived cold, and lacked flavor- it was no different than your generic, supermarket pork BBQ special. I had sliced leg of lamb the second time- it also arrived ICE COLD and had a strange, metallic flavor that was very unpleasant. The sauce it came with was cold and congealed, and gross. This place is overpriced, and the seating in the front section is awful- every time the door opens you get blasted with cold air. Though they usually save these front tables for walk-ins, they shouldn't have them at all if they aren't going to heat the area to a reasonable degree. I couldn't take my coat off it was so damed cold in that front section. And all the food here comes out luckewarm or downright cold. This place really sucks, stay away from it.
