50 hungry Bostonians in N.Y.C.!

I am organizing a group of about 50 people from Boston
for a trip to N.Y.C. in April. I need to find a restaurant where we can have a meal as a group. The group includes some children. The cost should be around $15.00 a head. We are looking for something that is not too exotic but of quality.
I know that my New York Chowhound brothers and sisters have a discriminating palate!
Thanks.

i would think you'd want to do something very "NY," if possible. with that budget, the first thing that comes to mind is maybe a famous pizza place like patsy's in brooklyn (now grimaldi's, i believe.) it's right under the brooklyn bridge, so it's directly across from manhattan.

I wouldn't recommend America. The food is undistinguished, to say the least.

Another "very NY" experience is Katz's Deli in the Lower East Side. No better place to get good ol' fashioned corned beef or pastrami. It still has that old cafteria feel, too.

I second the Katz's recommendation. You'll definitely be able to eat for $15 a head, and it's big enough to accommodate your group.

Patsy's/Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge is definitely a NY experience but I wouldn't suggest that a group of 50 go there. They don't take reservations, there's usually a line up to get in around meal hours, and the room will not 50 people.

I definitely urge you to go, but not as a group. Happy eating.
