Our favorite Chinatown restaurant, which had reliably delicious seafood, noodles, vegetables, etc. recently closed and we're looking for another all-purpose place that's consistent and has a good selection. We tried New Green Bo (did I get it right?) and weren't as enthusiastic as others on the board seem to be, so it may be we didn't order the right dishes - though the sauteed prawns were highlighted on the menu and we found them totally ordinary. We love most things with black bean sauce and don't require special ambiance, just truly good food. Thanks

I have two reccomendations in chinatown. THe first is Wing Wong and is on mott street between canal and whatever street is one block north of it. I have been going there for around fifteen years and it is one of my favorite all time places. It is simple, fairly clean, especially for chinatown and dirt cheap with most items coming in around 5 bucks. THey don't have anything extravagant like live seafood but for simple honest roast meats and noodles it is the best.
I also highly recommend Vietnam, which is hard to find, take mott street south on canal and take a left on pell, then take the first right and look straight and you'll see it. It looks kind of frightening from the street, but go downstairs and they have really fresh delicious food. And since it is vietnamese they have the most beautiful herbs and vegetables in everything, and not much tops 7 dollars.
THese are my very favorites and I try to go atleast twice a month to enjoy.
