I want to try Daniel while in town next month. The only reservation I can get on a Saturday night is for 10:00 p.m.(the restaurant hours are 5-11).

In NY I often eat that late or later, but have never done so at a top-of-the-line french restaurant.

Is this a bad idea? Will I feel rushed?

Thanks.

I seriously doubt you'll feel rushed - I've been forced to do the 10, and even 11 o'clock seating thing many times at many of the city's harder to get reservations and have never felt rushed. Personally, I get sleepy and strange feeling though - I remember finishing up a tasting menu from a 10:15 reservation at the old Bouley at around 2:30 a.m. and feeling literally like I was hallucinating from eating so much at a time when I'm usually sleeping...It's really a personal thing - if you're up to the challenge, go for it.

I have no problem with late dining but I do have reservations about Daniel. I've eaten there in both its incarnations and have been disappointed both times. Without a doubt, the room is beautiful and the service spectacular. But I really resent paying top dollar for tiny (albeit delicious) portions. It gives me worse indigestion than eating late!!!

Just received the December issue of Gourmet magazine and they have a four-page spread on Restaurant Daniel and Daniel Boulud you might want to check out.
